Shi Zengzhi is the professor at School of Journalism and Communication, Peking University; doctoral supervisor; Faculty Chair of Communication Studies; Director of Centre for Public Communication and Social Development, Peking University; Former Executive Director of Center for Civil Society Studies, Peking University. Her research areas include: media sociology, media culture and the public sphere, new media empowerment, and civil society. She had authored such books as New Media Empowerment and the Rise of the Internet of Meanings and published numerous academic articles in the field of modern publishing and communication studies. She was also the recipient of several major publication and teaching awards in China.
During her term as executive director of Center for Civil Society Studies, she presided Peking University 10 Civic Society Event Selection from 2009 to 2011, based on the selection the book New Media Empowerment: the Co-evolution between State and Society in China was published. Since 2010, she has organized Peking University Public Communication Media Senior Seminar every year; and since 2013, she launched annual PKU Public Communication Award. In 2014, she was entitled The Commonweal Figure of the Year by NF people. In 2016, She co-launched Thinkers’ Summit of Translingual Communication on Life.
